Highlights

'Approachable and decisive', he is 'a popular choice for delicate matters' and 'is known for his clarity, concision' and 'his determined and robust style'.

Magnus has secured numerous apologies and settlements for well-known people who have been libelled. He has acted three times for the boxer Frank Bruno, who welcomed his 'punchy' style. Magnus has also acted for Ulrika Jonsson, Jamie Theakston, Shilpa Shetty, Danielle Lloyd and Sasha Baron Cohen over a breach of his privacy, the author and thinker Edward de Bono and the comedian John Cleese. Magnus has also advised a senior member of the British Army, an MP, an MEP and local council chief executives. He has also negotiated with publishers for Terry Venables and Bernie Ecclestone over allegations in unauthorised biographies.

Magnus has worked on a 'no win - no fee' basis with a number of clients who would otherwise not have been able to vindicate their reputations. These included a freelance journalist, a driving test examiner and a former boxing coach.

Magnus has worked on some ground-breaking cases in protecting the privacy of well-known people, successfully injuncting national newspapers and broadcasters to prevent them from publishing photographs, medical and relationship details and other private information.

Magnus has protected the reputations and brands of many major companies helping to manage unwanted media attention and crises. He is frequently called upon before stories are published or broadcast to prevent inaccuracy and prevent companies from being defamed or commercially sensitive information being published.

Since 2006 Magnus has been advising Tesco.  In the last year he has also acted for NatureWorks, Iron Mountain, Slimming World and the Big Lottery Fund. Corporate clients value 'his discretion, speed of response and ability to advise objectively and fairly'. Magnus also protects business men and women who are often the spokespeople or figureheads for their companies and who have been defamed or whose privacy has been invaded, often intervening to prevent reputational damage. Clients appreciate his 'expertise', 'technical knowledge' and 'calm, friendly approach'.

Magnus has developed a particular interest in protecting medical reputations in the media and the General Medical Council. Clients value his 'patience and understanding' and 'the clarity and quality' of his advice. Magnus has advised the chief executive of an NHS Trust and many leading consultants on libel claims involving professional colleagues, advisory websites and the media generally. One client commented: "I was very impressed with Magnus assimilation of complex historical and clinical information. He was quick to gain knowledge of the case and skilled in getting to the root of the issue". In 2007 Chambers and Partners recognised that Magnus "has carved a niche for himself in medical matters".

Magnus writes and lectures regularly and is a member of the Media Society, LSE Media Group, the Frontline Club and the Chartered Institute of Public Relations. He is also an approved lawyer for the Public Relations Consultants Association.
