Lucy Middleton

Lucy read French and Italian at Bristol University. She went on to study law and complete the Legal Practice Course at BPP Law School in London. She trained at Carter-Ruck and qualified in 2007.
Lucy specialises in defamation, privacy and confidence and is experienced in all areas of media litigation. She acts for a wide range of clients including politicians, businessmen, celebrities, financial organisations, newspapers and companies as well as other individuals from all walks of life. She has helped secure numerous apologies and settlements for clients as part of her reputation management practice. Lucy also has experience of obtaining pre-publication injunctions for clients where it has been necessary to protect private information.
Recent work includes assisting in acting for Sienna Miller in harassment and privacy proceedings, resulting in Big Pictures giving undertakings to the Court not to pursue or 'doorstep' Ms Miller. More recently, Lucy has been working alongside Claire Gill in connection with Boris Berezovsky's successful intervention in a third party disclosure application brought by Times Newspapers.
Where it has not been possible to reach settlement at an early stage, Lucy has been involved in running several high-profile cases to trial. She was part of the team which acted for Sir Martin Sorrell in his successful libel proceedings in respect of a defamatory blog and for Sir Martin and Daniela Weber in the related privacy proceedings. Lucy also assisted in libel proceedings brought by Mr Berezovsky against Mikhail Fridman and Alfa Bank, in which a jury awarded Mr Berezovsky £50,000 in damages.
As well as acting for a large number of individuals, Lucy has represented various companies and media organisations including the Danish newspaper, Ekstra Bladet, in libel proceedings brought by Kaupthing Bank, and US Petroleum Holdings.
Lucy is a member of the Media Society. She speaks fluent French and Italian.
